Crystals and chocolate
Just give me a crystal and some chocolate
A crystal in my hand and chocolate melting in my mouth is one of the most blissful and nourishing things I can do for myself. But here’s the thing—I have easy access to these things and I can always find 5 or 10 minutes in the day to treat myself—but I’m trying to think of the last time I did this and I’m straining my brain a little bit.
Don’t get me wrong. I am holding crystals and munching on chocolate all the time. But sitting with both of them with the intention to relax and without thinking of the next thing I need to do…it’s been a while.
If 2 or 3 minutes is all you have
Life is full of stresses. The never-ending to do list. The unexpected bills. The expected bills. The plumbing backs up. The car breaks down. The good friend who’s not being so good to you. The small talk with your partner that turns into a big argument. The proverbial pains in the neck turn into an actual pain in the neck. And then with all that, the holidays creep up and suddenly there’s so much more to do.
The anxiety levels that you’ve just gotten down to a dull roar spike with anticipation of the extra work and inevitable family drama. There’s definitely not an extra 5 or 10 minutes to find in the day and that’s exactly when you MUST find that time. Let it be 2 or 3 minutes if that’s truly all you can spare.
Suddenly there's more energy
Here’s the magical part. When we take the time nourish ourselves, the body has time to charge and then having rested, suddenly there’s more energy to do all the things you need to do—plus on a full charge and with a clearer head, things get done faster, freeing up more time. So if you think about it, you’ll get more done (and it will get done better) if you give yourself that time to rest.
We all know this. It’s not breaking news. But yet we don’t take the short breaks that we need, when we need them. There’s a voice in the head that urges us on to just finish this next thing so that we can relax—and just one more because we’re almost done and then one more because we’re never done.
Is that why?
So I’m thinking if that’s why I am not intentional with my crystal chocolate breaks, maybe all I need to do is add in the breaks as part of the to-do list. It can become an important task in the line-up and then it will have to get done.
Perhaps I will add this to my intentions for the coming year…
Take small moments to hold a crystal and eat some chocolate and fully embody the bliss of the experience.
Always a crystal
You’re welcome to borrow from that if you are also looking for some moments of blissful rest during the busy-ness. It doesn’t have to be a crystal and chocolate. Crystals go with everything. It can be a crystal and a cookie or a crystal and a cuppa (insert favourite drink). Or a crystal and some other treat that starts with C. (Kidding of course. I love alliteration). But there does always have to be a crystal!
(Note: for me it’s raw chocolate made by a local artisan who crafts her bars with the best ingredients and lots of love).
At this point I could continue working on this post and send out the Sunday Sparkle newsletter. It’s what my brain is telling me to do. But I’m going to take a break and nourish my body and rest my mind. BRB.
