Calcite and us
Calcite has been singing for us. I imagine that it is a stone being that many of us are needing at this time. Calcite is a good friend to have around at any time, but perhaps especially so right now. I’m not sure why just yet. Maybe by the time I finish this log, I’ll understand.
Calcite is made up of mostly calcium carbonate. This mineral is found in limestone and marble but also in chalk and seashells (marine organisms absorb it from the water and use it to form their shells). Isn’t it interesting that chalk is such a soft stone that can crumble with just a little bit of pressure while marble is quite hard. It kind of reminds me of the carbon/diamond transformation. This dark, soft, opaque stone becomes a water clear, intensely sparkly and one of the hardest crystals on the planet—simply by putting a little pressure on it.
And that leads to another of Calcite’s properties—Calcite releases electrical impulses when placed under pressure (like Quartz).
Like Water for Calcite
Calcite is a stone of Water. It is formed in water and is water soluble. Here is another connection we have with this crystal. We live in bodies that are mostly water, our earth is mostly water. Water is life to us. I could probably fill many pages with water’s symbolism. And yes there is a connection between water’s metaphysical properties and Calcite’s. They are both about purity, clarity, cleansing, etc.
But I believe that right here and right now, Calcite’s message is about its intimate, personal, and intricate connection with us. It is literally inside of us. There are Calcite micro crystals in our pineal gland and inner ear. It may be why we have such an affinity for this crystalline being.
Calcite Cornucopia
Next to Quartz, Calcite is the most abundant of earth’s minerals. I don’t believe it can be a coincidence that Calcium (which is needed by the body for healthy bones, muscles, nervous system, and heart) is one of the most abundant minerals in the human body.
Calcite is not only an abundant presence on our planet, there are over 700 various kinds of this crystal and it manifests in a rainbow of colours. Placing a calcite crystal on the chakra centre matching its colour, clears and activates that energy centre. It also provides a "sweeping" action which will clear the remaining centres.
Soft and sensitive
Calcite is a very soft crystal, sensitive to heat, water and sun. It needs a gentle touch as it will easily cleave, break or chip. This stone being is like a new born star-child who is just getting acclimated to the earth and must be treated with attuned and sensitive care or it is liable to fall apart. But, when properly cared for and aligned with, many wonders can be revealed. Not unlike the many sensitive souls and empaths in our world at this time. For us, Calcite can be an important guide, helping us to navigate the dense and often overwhelming energies we encounter on a daily basis.
Calcite is a teacher crystal. They are said to help us to remember the information we receive during experiences in other states of consciousness. Calcite also is an energy amplifier (another shared property with Quartz). They are the muses to other crystals, inspiring them to their fullest potential. They can show humankind how to return to a state of harmony and wellbeing within ourselves, as well as with each other and our environment.
Beingness and nothingness
Calcite's most important lesson is the "art of being". This extends beyond linear mental association and into the realm of true knowing. When attuning to and working with Calcite, it is best to simply be with it, allowing yourself to become clear and open.
